Colonial Santa Ornament by Inge Glas

A Very Special Limited Edition Ornament from Birgit's Christmas Collection
When the first glass Christmas ornaments were created in the Thuringian Forest region of Germany about 150 years ago, Birgit Müller-Blech's ancestors, the Eichorn family, were there. Her amazing heritage of craftsmanship and artistry is evident in each ornament she creates. Today, Birgit is co-owner and designer at Inge Glas.
Because of the extraordinary skill and time required to bring each ornament in Birgit's Christmas Collection to life, the ornaments in this series are the most limited and collectible of Inge Glas ornaments. Each design is retired after very limited production.
Santa Claus is the jolly man that delivers presents to good boys and girls on Christmas Eve. This mythical man is based on a melting pot of customs and cultures from the world over. St. Nicholas, the patron saint of Russia, around 400 A.D., was the most influential figure in shaping the image of Santa Claus that we know and love today. St. Nicholas was a kind and benevolent man and was legendary for his compassion and charity. When the Dutch brought their “Sinter Clas” to the United States; Santa Claus came to be, after being brought to life in the 1850’s story by Clement Moore, “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Santa Claus encompasses all the goodness and innocence of childhood. The gentleness and generosity of Santa lives in our hearts and in every act of kindness we perform. We do believe in Santa Claus!
Mouth blown and hand painted by Inge Glas in Neustadt by Coburg, this retired ornament is approximately 6 3/4" tall.
